It’s been a long time since I wrote one of these more ‘personal’ blog posts so, figured I’d grab a coffee and get to work! I often get asked what podcasts I listen too and the ones that have stood out so, today I thought I’d give you my top 3 podcasts of all time and explain a little more of the reasons why.

These are the only 3 podcasts I have saved within my podcast app. If I’m in a spot in my life where I feel I need one of them I go back to the relevant one. I personally think your podcast library should be like a book shelf. By that I mean you don’t just read the book once and leave it forever, you keep it and refer back to it when you gravitate back towards it. If, like me your an avid podcast listener it’s really difficult to take in all the information on the first listen so, if you think it’s going to be useful.. dip back in!

I like to think these 3 podcasts cover all avenues of my life and the potential struggles / challenges that come with it. I’ve outlined those 3 sectors as business, motivation and reality. So, let’s take a closer look at them and I really hope some of you enjoy them as much as I have over the years!

Jocko Podcast #139
Whatever Darkness You Face, START WALKING.

In my opinion this could be one of the most powerful podcasts of all time. I remember the first time I listened to it I was out on a trail run around the local area and, I was lacking motivation. Usually when motivation is low and I want to get deep into a work out I’ll throw on a Jocko podcast.

I remember this particular episode struck a chord in me pretty hard. Here I was on a beautiful day, with food in my stomach and water on my back ‘choosing’ not to run. The podcast documents The Bataan Death March through the eyes of an American solider, James Bollich. The Bataan Death March was the forcible transfer by the Imperial Japanese Army of 60,000–80,000 American and Filipino prisoners of war. The total distance of the march was between 60 -70 miles. The march was characterised by severe physical abuse and led to over 600 deaths.

I’ll be honest, I’d never heard of the Bataan Death March but James’s story hooked me in and I decided to continue running until the end of the episode (2hours 20mins). The story is touching and I remember running with tears in my eyes more than once.

Whenever I feel like I need to be humbled or, to get a dose of reality I listen to this podcast. Again, it’s a MUST.

BUSINESS

Gypsy Tales #072 - Miles Muecke

It’s pretty cool that over the last few years Jase McAlpine (host of Gypsy Tales) has become a good friend of mine. Jase is one of those guys thats I trust to deliver good content and even though when Miles’s name came up on my feed I had no idea who he was I hit play anyways. Anybody who has run a business, started a project or is wanting to do something for themselves needs to listen to this. Miles goes into depth about some of his struggles both mentally, physically and financially that he’s experienced on his entrepreneurial journey.

There’s times we want to give up. Times we want to throw the towel in and say FUCK IT! But, it’s conversations like this one that can keep you on track and on the path. After all, if it was easy then everybody would be doing it right!?

MOTIVATION

Aubrey Marcus Podcast #024 - Own The Day with Aubrey Marcus

Own The Day, Own Your Life is probably my favourite book. So, when I saw this podcast come out I was stoked. Aubrey is the owner of Onnit, which he describes as a ‘human optimisation’ company.. Bare with me, it’s not all woo woo and jacked dudes lifting heavy things! Aubrey is extremely spiritual and, has a good grasp of all things health and wellness both mentally and physically. This episodes breaks down a few chapters of his book including, diet, training, morning routines, sleep and sex. Yes, SEX.

All these things add up to you living a healthy and fulfilling life so, why not learn more about what you can do to optimise them? Trust me, you’ll learn something and you’ll be better after listening to this episode and then buying the book.

Thanks for reading!
